About Us
Spectacles on Church is a boutique optical destination in the heart of historic downtown Galveston, bringing a distinctive, gallery-inspired approach to eyewear on the island. Opened in June 2026, it is the second location from the owners of Spectacles on Montrose, a Houston-based optical boutique serving the Montrose community since 1998.
Founded by Dr. Evan Mapes and Corey Theige, Spectacles on Church is built on more than 25 years of experience curating independent eyewear collections that prioritize craftsmanship, individuality, and personal style. The boutique offers thoughtfully selected frames and sunglasses from independent designers around the world, paired with personalized styling and attentive service.
In addition to prescription eyewear and curated optical collections, the shop features Shadz by Spectacles—a dedicated space for sunglasses designed to suit a wide range of styles and budgets, while maintaining a focus on unique, non-mass-market design.
Set within a historic Church Street location, the space reflects the character of Galveston itself: creative, timeless, and full of personality. Spectacles on Church invites visitors to discover eyewear that is both functional and expressive—helping each customer find a frame that feels uniquely their own.
