About Us
Established as a wholesale water utility by the Texas Legislature in 1965, the Gulf Coast Water Authority's (GCWA) extensive water delivery system is quilted together from legacy private systems largely developed in the early to mid-1900s. Beginning with these legacies, GCWA has adapted and grown to address the evolving needs of the communities and businesses it serves. At the heart of our mission lies a steadfast
commitment to reliably deliver water to our customers.
GCWA's extensive water conveyance system serves as evidence of this commitment, efficiently transporting up to 200 million gallons of water daily from the Brazos River, our primary water source. This essential service provides water to wholesale customers across Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Galveston Counties, encompassing a comprehensive network featuring three river pump stations, 276 miles of open channel canal, four reservoirs, a potable water treatment plant, and an industrial raw water pump station. GCWA plays a vital role in sustaining various sectors, including water supply for 16,000 acres of agricultural fields, providing water to industrial facilities, and meeting the daily
water needs of a residential population exceeding 600,000.
