Taiguruma Mini Workshop
In this workshop, participants will get a taste of the festivities involved in the making and use of Taiguruma, traditional Japanese fish-shaped paper lantern on wheels. Delegates from Galveston’s sister city, Niigata, will teach the art of making their traditional lanterns. Participants will decorate prepared long strips of washi paper with paint and stickers. They will attach the decorated paper to the bottom part of a pre-made Taiguruma. After pulling the Taiguruma around Galveston Arts Center to great the incoming ArtWalk visitors at 6:00PM, they will detach the decorated paper and attach it to a plastic tube to take home. It can be used as a mini-lantern and can be a good gift idea for Christmas presents. Led by Noguchi san, Chiemi (Noguchi san’s wife) and their child Akari. They will be giving a 4-day Taiguruma construction workshop at the Galveston Art League on the following week, November 26-29, for those interested in building their own Taiguruma from scratch. Translation provided by Mayuko Gray and Stewart Pagan. Drop in and leave any time during this 3-hour workshop
