Explore the rich world of fiber art with local artist and fashion designer Rachael Montemayor. Learn and be inspired to make objects, wearable art, and décor from fibers such as wool, silk, linen, driftwood, and repurposed materials by wet felting, weaving, crocheting, and knotting. Experimentation is encouraged; your work can be as unique and personal as your own ideas! As sessions go on, participants will especially enjoy mixing techniques within a single item to add interest and texture, or incorporating unexpected elements that are recycled, found or deconstructed Examples of beginner-friendly projects in this session include felted soap scrubbers, free-form weaving with driftwood to create a beautiful wall hanging, and how to make beautiful felt from combining various streams of colors and textures together in the wet-felting process. An abundant supply of hand-dyed natural wool roving, yarns and other fibers are available through this program at GAC. Try out any project with supplied materials, and benefit from Rachael’s personal knowledge and resources on specialty materials, yarn-spinning and dying techniques.
