East End Holiday HomesTour, "A Victorian Christmas"
Galveston’s East End Historical District Association (EEHDA) will host its 27th annual “A Victorian Christmas” Holiday Homes Tour on Friday, December 2 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The tour will feature three East End neighborhood homes, and a neighborhood bed & breakfast, all festively decorated for the holiday season. The homes on tour include the 1899 Isaac & Chlotilde Heffron House (aka the Victorian Inn), the 1897 John A. Caplen House, the 1886 Adolph & Lena Nitsche House, and the 1908 James M. Lykes House. In addition, the EEHDA Cottage will be open for light refreshments, and guests will enjoy a variety of holiday music at the EEHDA's Darragh Park, and at some of the residential locations. The elegant historic homes of the East End Historical District are the architectural products of skilled European immigrants during a time when Galveston was the wealthiest city in Texas. These homes were designed for wealthy merchants and entrepreneurs wanting to display their wealth and impress their neighbors. The cost of the tour is $20.00, and tickets are limited. The proceeds of this event directly benefits the East End Historical District Association. Purchase your tickets in advance at The Grand 1894 Opera House, 800-821-1894. The East End Historical District was designated a National Historic Landmark and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The EEHDA was formed in the 1970’s to preserve and maintain the heritage and livability of the East End neighborhood
