Denim Day
Wearing denim on denim day reminds us of the harmful attitudes still prevalent about sexual violence. Denim Day was established after a 1999 Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction simply because the woman was wearing jeans. The court?s decision rested on the belief that it would have been impossible for the attacker to remove the jeans by himself, and therefore the victim must have facilitated her own assault. Pick up a denim day ribbon at the Resource and Crisis Center today for a $5 donation! Wear it with your denim on denim day, April 29th. All proceeds benefit the Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County, which provides services to sexual assault victims such as a 24 hour hotline and counseling services.
