Art of Poetry
Are you currently writing poetry and looking for a group of fellow poets with whom to share your work? Or, if you’re not currently writing, perhaps you’d like some help getting started? Come find out if sharing your own poetry in a supportive group atmosphere is for you. Open to beginners and experienced poets alike (age 18+) the focus of this workshop will be on “free- verse” style rather than poetry that follows structured form. The instructor and workshop participants will read your poems and offer advice, strategies and camaraderie to help you develop your unique voice. Bring one or two original pieces and hear others' suggestions, offered in a spirit of mutual support. The group will also look at poems written by the instructor and others that he has chosen. This free workshop will be offered twice: Saturday, May 19 and Saturday, June 16; Both workshops meet from 1:30 to about 3:30 PM at the Galveston Arts Center. Attend one or both as the topics covered will change. In addition to these free, one-time workshops, GAC will offer an ongoing, fee-based poetry class soon. The free workshops can be your introduction to the instructor and his methods, to help you decide if the on-going class is for you.
