44th ANNUAL ROTARY CLUB OF GALVESTON CHILI SUPPER SET FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27
GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS (6 July 2021.) For over four decades, The Rotary Club of Galveston has hosted its annual Chili Supper fundraiser, with this year's event set for Wednesday, October 27. To be held in the Ball High School Cafeteria, 4115 Avenue O, serving hours are 5pm-8pm. In addition to great “homemade” chili and rice and all the condiments, guests can purchase tamales to accompany their chili supper, as well as a variety of home-made and specialty desserts. Many of the delicious desserts available for sale will be made from the Rotarians’ family recipes - handed down from generation to generation, as well as tempting desserts donated by Galveston College’s culinary arts department, Moody Gardens and many of the Island’s best restaurants. Guests may dine in or bring containers for “to go” orders. “Take out” containers will also be available. For those patrons who choose to enjoy their chili supper with friends in the Ball High cafeteria - you're welcome to return for more chili as often as you like.
Free children’s books will again will be given away throughout the evening, and will include a great variety of books to interest all age groups of children and youth. This year’s annual Chili Supper will also feature a special Halloween theme, and attendees can look forward to many of the Rotarians dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes, and other fun Halloween highlights throughout the evening.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser (as well as proceeds from the club’s annual Rotary Crawfish Boil), benefit the Rotary Club of Galveston’s Galveston Rotary Foundation, Inc., which in turn sponsors and supports many essential programs and projects that benefit the Galveston community. Financial support provided in 2020, and 2021 to date, include grants to Galveston Urban Ministries to purchase laptops for school-aged children impacted by the Covid-19 Pandemic, as well as funds for “Getting Ahead” teaching tools. The Sea Star Base Galveston received a grant to help fund scholarships for water safety swimming classes, and the Salvation Army received assistance with operating costs due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. FanFare! Lutheran Music Academy received a grant to provide scholarships for Summer Camp/classes, and the UTMB Police Department received funds to continue their initiative to provide Infant Car Safety Seats. In addition to these grants, it is important to note that the Foundation also awarded funding to several local community social service providers to aid in helping those adversely impacted by the recent pandemic. Since the creation of the Club’s Foundation in 1989, over $700,000 has been granted to support local scholarships, initiatives, programs, and projects that benefit and enhance the health, education and welfare of Galveston’s citizens and community.
Tickets are $10 for the chili supper. Tamale and dessert options will also be available. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any member of the Rotary Club of Galveston, or purchased at the door.
